Today is your day
Luke 19:1-7 (MSG)
“Then Jesus entered and walked through Jericho. There was a man there, his name Zacchaeus, the head tax man and quite rich. He wanted desperately to see Jesus, but the crowd was in his way—he was a short man and couldn’t see over the crowd. So he ran on ahead and climbed up in a sycamore tree so he could see Jesus when he came by.
When Jesus got to the tree, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down. Today is my day to be a guest in your home.” Zacchaeus scrambled out of the tree, hardly believing his good luck, delighted to take Jesus home with him. Everyone who saw the incident was indignant and grumped, “What business does he have getting cozy with this crook?”
Zacchaeus had positioned himself up a tree out of desperation to see Jesus through the crowd. He needed to do whatever He could to just get a glimpse of this Messiah and that involved going to a higher level.
Zacchaeus’ reaction to Jesus’ invitation was one of excitement and honour showing that he knew who He was that was coming to dine with him.
Can you imagine the thrill of being told by Jesus that He is coming to your house as a guest? Zacchaeus had done some pretty bad stuff but Jesus chose to come to his house! Not only did Jesus come to his physical house but in return, he was also invited into Zacchaeus’ heart.
Jesus also wants to come and be a guest at your house. He wants you to open up the doors of your heart to Him no matter what you have done.
He is calling you down from your tree where you may be seeing Him at a distance and He is coming to your house. He has spotted you up there, called you out of the crowd and wants to intimately share a meal with you. Today is your day to dine with Him.
