Mark 5:35-36 (NIV)
“While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” If there ever was a situation to not believe it would have been then. Hearing that your daughter had just died and picturing her limp, frail body would have brought about feelings of shock and angst.
There was absolutely nothing Jairus could do to save his daughter now. He was not even with her when she was pronounced dead and he had done all he could on his own.
The people around Jairus told him to give up. “It’s too late, don’t bother anymore”. What had seemed a remote possibility had given way to total impossibility and they looked at death causing their faith to expire.
The amazing thing was that Jairus had come in contact with the Resurrection and the Life Himself so immediately what seemed impossible was still possible with Jesus.
Jesus quickly spoke life into him, rebuking and ignoring the negative words and instructions, cutting off any unbelief and filling him with faith. He just had to believe.
Jesus had set out for Jairus’ house and although He seemed to take His time, He was not late a single moment.
Jesus will not start a job without finishing it. No, He is faithful and true to His word. So if He has begun a good work in you, He will complete it.
If He has started healing you, He will finish it. He is on His way to answer your prayer too. No matter how ‘dead’ things seem and no matter what the crowds are telling you, hang in there and you will see it come back to life. Just believe.
