Jesus and money: Can you have both?
Mark 10:23-25 (MSG) Looking at his disciples, Jesus said, “Do you have any idea how difficult it is for people who ‘have it all’ to enter God’s kingdom?” The disciples couldn’t believe what they were hearing, but Jesus kept on: “You can’t imagine how difficult. I’d say it’s easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for the rich to get into God’s kingdom”.
Why is it so difficult for a rich man to get to heaven? Because he can easily become dependant on money.
Jesus tells us it IS possible but only with God (v27). That is because with God’s help we can get our heart right. By placing money, investments and possessions far below Him, we can prevent them becoming idols that we worship.
Is your security and safety found in your bank account or your God?
Do you trust God or rely on your wallet?
God wants us to have money and provision but not let our money have us. He is far more precious than any amount of silver or gold anyway. The things of this earth will pass away but God will remain with us!
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ Hebrews 13:5 NIVUK
