A sabbath days rest
Mark 2:23-27 (NIV)
‘One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Here we see the reason that God created the Sabbath day. It was simply for our benefit so that there would be one day out of seven for rest.
It was not intended to be burdensome or ritualistic to us, but for our comfort and spiritual cleansing.
Due to the fact that man was created before the Sabbath, we know that it was made for us. God knew of its necessity back then and even more so in the age we live in.
There are no hard and fast rules about what your Sabbath should consist of, however if it is to benefit you it should involve a resting of the physical body so the spiritual man can come alive and be drawn closer to God.
Clutter and busyness must cease in order to hear from Him more clearly.
So go ahead and set aside a day dedicated to Him and watch as you go deeper into His presence and feel His heart beat for you.
